William Reichard

William Reichard is a writer, editor, and visual artist. His eighth poetry collection, In the Evening, was published by Broadstone Books in 2024. He lives and works in Saint Paul, MN.

Artist’s Statement

I work intuitively. This is true for both my poetry and my visual art. I see the two forms as intimately connected. What I can’t find a way to say with written language, I can often say in visual language. I move between the two forms fluidly. Most of my visual work is made up of found images, antique cabinet cards, old diaries, and paper ephemera that I collect at estate sales. I love photography, and am drawn to cyanotype and other arcane photo methods. There’s always an element of imprecision in the work, a sense of guessing and play. I enjoy being surprised by what comes up when I put my cyanotypes in the water bath.
