Shayna Bruce

Shayna Bruce is a visual artist and photographer based in Kentucky. For Shayna, creativity is a refuge—a personal journey inspired by themes of duality and the ongoing rhythm of life and death. Surrealism captivates her, and she enjoys blending and manipulating images to create something entirely new. Art, to Shayna, is an ever-changing expression, a tribute to the intricate dance of life’s contrasting elements. She loves exploring the profound beauty found within the subtle chaos of existence.

Artist’s Statement

In my photographic collages, I explore the interplay of duality, where contrasting elements harmonize to weave a narrative of life and death, light and dark. Each composition serves as a visual meditation on the delicate balance inherent in existence.

“Mystic Mausoleum” stands as a testament to the juxtaposition of life’s transience against enduring structures. The ethereal fusion of a cemetery statue and tulip patches in “Our Eternal Tulips” reflects the perpetual dance between mortality and everlasting beauty.

The theme of duality continues in “The Whispering Veil,” where the fusion of a contemplative profile with smoky fog invites viewers to contemplate the enigmatic realms between the seen and the unseen. “Silent Marble” further explores this theme, depicting the serenity found in the stillness of a cemetery statue.

“Winged Harmony” takes flight into the realm of nature, where a bee’s delicate wings spread against a kaleidoscopic pattern. This piece embodies the dual forces of fragility and resilience, echoing the eternal cycle of life and renewal.

As the curator of these visual tales, my intent is to capture the essence of existence, embracing the dichotomies that define our journey. Through careful juxtaposition and manipulation, each title serves as a poetic lens, inviting viewers to explore the intricate dance of opposites in a world where the above mirrors the below, and light dances with dark.
