Lauren Crasco

Lauren Crasco is an artist based in San Francisco and New Orleans who works throughout the United States and internationally as a production designer for film and television. As a designer, she focuses on the essential physical details that convey location and character in order to build an appropriate environment to reveal these specifics on camera. As a visual artist, she enjoys the freedom of creating imagined worlds that are intentionally undefined and sparsely populated. She holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and studied figurative drawing and painting at Associates in Art in Sherman Oaks, CA. She explores subjects including the human figure and the contemporary urban landscape through drawing, painting, and collage. Her artwork has been shown in exhibitions in Northern California, Los Angeles, and New Orleans.

Artist’s Statement

My continuing exploration of cinematic visual language directly influences my artistic practice. In my artwork, I seek to capture the essence of character and to depict moments of stillness and isolation. I often create images that appear slightly surreal, whether drawing from life, building a collage, or interpreting a landscape. By repeatedly editing and truncating the subject matter, I reduce a composition to its most critical elements. I construct each piece like a short story with the intent to telegraph an emotion and create a moment of reflection for the viewer.
