Riyad Carey

Japanese Garden

The sky is pulled taut over a
wobbling pond valanced with
green, green cords that tie back
a never-pulled curtain,
framing each laugh that skips across,
tossed by a group of girls pausing
before a bridge, snapped in a second which
bends to hours

Grass Growing, Leaves and Snow Falling

In the suburbs
each nice day is celebrated
by four-stroke engines
cleaning up the mess
